Hi.

Welcome to my blog to share my experiences and things I am learning during my journey to better wellbeing

#2 Get Outside

#2 Get Outside

Get outside to breath fresh air, experience the beauty of nature

Forcing ourselves to get outside more can really give our wellbeing a boost.  But working from home can limit our opportunity to get outside into the fresh air on a daily basis (unless you have a dog in which case you are already doing this!).

So this year, I am going to try and walk / run for at least 20 minutes outside every day.  (It is also a very good reason to have to put actual clothes on instead of pyjamas!) It is something that is becoming a habit now that I look forward to so I encourage you to try it.

There are lots of excellent reasons to spend more time outside including the following:

  • Fresh air – no matter what the temperature is, there is nothing like breathing in fresh air to give you more energy and sharpen your mind

  • Calm down - if you are having a stressful day or you are stuck on something, getting outside can help to reset your perspective

  • Inspiration – some of my best ideas and creativity comes to me when I am out walking or running or I catch up with an inspirational podcast

  • Break from work – it can be difficult for some of us to take time away from our laptops so incorporating 20-30 minutes outside during the day is a great way to take a break

  • Nature – seeing trees, water, birds, green fields lifts your spirits and the beauty of nature is a great way to mentally disconnect - so find out the best spots locally where there is the least concrete!

  • Exercise – walking is very good for us and if you don’t do any other exercise, this is a great way to start

  • Improves our health – there are scientific studies that indicate that being outside is good for our health and wellbeing.  Here are a couple of articles on this topic.

So for those of you who don’t have a dog, for the next week at least, take 20 minutes out of each day to go out for a walk.  Breathe in the fresh air and take in the beauty of nature around you.  See how it makes you feel….
